ABOUT KYLE BRINKMAN

Dr. Brinkman is a Professor at Clemson University and currently serves as the Department Chair for the Materials Science and Engineering Division. He maintains an active research program focused on materials synthesis and characterization of energy materials in the renewable energy arena including solid state batteries, fuel cells and nuclear materials. He has worked in Europe, Asia and North America and brings over 20 years of experience including a global perspective to materials solutions. Click here to access his academic research group website.

OUR APPROACH

Making a personal connection with clients to deliver creative solutions for materials design and processing for the energy sector. Our expertise may be useful when you would i) like a deeper look at data including materials structure and properties including ii) select characterization that is limited in scope and not amenable to larger proposals/contracts and iii) when you need to develop alternative strategies for materials use, design and processing or iv) when you need a professional outside opinion based on 20+ years experience in materials science and engineering with a global perspective.

REPRESENTATIVE PATENTS

Existing Patents issued with multiple patents pending ranging from materials solutions for membrane separations and hydrogen production, fuel cells, advanced manufacturing and metals recovery from recycling streams; see for example K. Brinkman, U.S. Patent Number: 13/297,826 “Nanocrystalline Cerium Oxide Materials for Solid Fuel Cell Systems

SERVICES

We provide compositional design, tailored synthesis, characterization, data analyses and interpretation related to thermodynamic properties of materials, structure and electrochemistry in a wide range of energy conversion and storage applications including batteries and fuel cells. This includes advice on scalable processing and site-specific solutions for difficult materials challenges. On-site visits to client specified locations are encouraged to maximize impact of proposed solutions.

PATENT EXPERT WITNESS

Available to assist attorneys and their litigation paralegals with patent analysis reports, reverse engineering, filing prior art claims and technical opinions.

MATERIALS DESIGN AND PROCESSING

We provide compositional design, tailored synthesis and advice on scalable processing and site-specific solutions for difficult materials challenges in the energy sector.

MATERIALS CHARACTERIZATION

Select data collection and extensive data analysis of structure, electrochemical characteristics and thermodynamic properties of materials including predictions of materials compatibility and durability. EMC2 has access to world-class instruments at Clemson University and beyond through consulting arrangements for materials characterization.

PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT AND REVIEW/EVALUATION

Technical evaluator of industry and government led technology and commercialization initiatives in the energy materials sector to maximize investment impacts. Leverage experience to develop strategy and aid proposal development in order to maximize funding opportunities ranging from international government/industry consortia to US led SBIR/STTR opportunities.
